Marionette Lines Filler: When It Helps and What to Consider

06 August 2026 by Asimont Admin

Lines running down from the corners of your mouth can change how your resting expression looks. If you are researching marionette lines filler, the first question is what is creating the crease. A treatment that adds volume may help a hollow, but it will not address every cause of a heavier lower face.

Marionette lines or smile lines?

Marionette lines extend from the mouth corners towards the chin. Nasolabial folds, often called smile lines, run from the sides of the nose towards the mouth. They can appear together, but they occupy different areas and need separate assessment. Our guide to smile lines and nasolabial folds explains the neighbouring concern.

Age-related changes in skin elasticity, facial volume and tissue support can make marionette lines more noticeable. Genetics and sun exposure also influence their appearance. Having these lines does not mean something is wrong, and treatment is a personal choice.

What can filler realistically do?

Dermal filler adds volume and may soften selected lower-face creases. It does not remove excess skin or stop ageing. For some people, a conservative correction is appropriate; for others, adding product around the mouth could make an already heavy area look fuller.

Bring a clear description of what bothers you to the consultation: the line itself, a downward mouth corner, a hollow beside the chin, or the overall jawline. These are related concerns, but they are not interchangeable treatment targets.

Why the chin and jawline belong in the assessment

A useful consultation looks beyond a close-up photograph of the crease. Ask the doctor to assess your face at rest and in motion, explain the contribution of volume and skin laxity, and describe which change is achievable.

Asimont offers chin filler and jawline filler. Whether either belongs in your plan depends on your anatomy. Their availability is not a reason to treat both areas, and neither should be presented as an automatic solution for marionette lines.

When another approach may be more appropriate

If loose skin is the main concern, discuss the limits of adding volume and whether a skin-tightening assessment would be more useful. If the concern is substantial tissue descent, ask whether non-surgical options can deliver the change you want. Choosing no treatment, or seeking a surgical opinion where appropriate, should remain part of the conversation.

Risks and recovery to discuss

Filler injections can cause swelling, bruising, tenderness, lumps or asymmetry. Infection and delayed reactions can occur. Rarely, injection into a blood vessel can damage skin or cause serious complications, including vision loss. Unusual or increasing pain, skin turning pale or dusky, or any visual disturbance after treatment requires immediate medical attention.

Tell the doctor about previous injectables, allergies, medicines, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and any active skin problem. Do not stop prescribed medicines without advice. Ask for written aftercare and an urgent contact route before leaving the clinic.

Questions to ask before deciding

  • What is contributing most to my lines?
  • Which area would you treat, and why?
  • Which product would you use, and how much is proposed?
  • What change is unlikely to be achieved?
  • What does the quote include, and when will you review the result?

Frequently asked questions

Will filler completely erase the lines?

Complete removal is not a realistic promise. Discuss a specific, modest goal and the possibility that some crease will remain.

Is there one best filler for everyone?

No. Product selection and suitability depend on the individual assessment. A brand name alone cannot establish whether a proposed treatment is appropriate.

How much will it cost?

Request an itemised quote naming the product, quantity, treatment areas and follow-up arrangements. A headline syringe price does not describe the full plan.
